Lent 2017  Dear Friends: Lent 2017 is a time for us to pray for dramatic missionary growth in the Diocese of Rockville Centre. Part of that dramatic missionary growth is stimulated by our willingness to invite our inactive Catholic friends back to Mass. LENTEN REGULATIONS Ash Wednesday and Good Friday: Days of Fast and Abstinence. Limit of one full meal on these days for Catholics between the ages of 18 and 59 inclusive. All Fridays in Lent: Days of Abstinence. For all Catholics who have reached their 14th year. Weekdays of Lent: There is no obligation to fast. However, voluntary acts of self-denial are recommended.  Easter Duty Obligation: After they have been initiated into the Most Holy Eucharist, Catholics are bound by the obligation of receiving Communion at least once a year. St. Joseph’s Parish Lenten Soup Supper Friday evening April 7 from 6 – 7:30 pm St. Agnes Room Please join us for a simple soup supper and learn about the Opening Word program, a ministry of the Sisters of St. Dominic. It is a literacy program which teaches the English language and job readiness skills to immigrant women on Long Island. The program began in Wyandanch in September 1991 and subsequently expanded to two more sites in Amityville and Huntington Station. Today the students number more than 260.
