As tensions, anger, and violence continue across our nation, let us join in prayer for deeper respect for all innocent lives. We recognize the sorrow and pain of the African-American community, and we pray for the safety of all men and women of color. We extend our concern to families and business owners, who have suffered from violence and looting. We pray for the protection of the men and women of our police and first responders, as they pursue their duty with appropriate responsibility to maintain safety and stability in our society.

This prayer drawn from the Roman Missal:

O God, who show a Father’s care for all,
grant, in your mercy,
that the members of our human race
to whom you have given a single origin,
may form in peace a single family
and always be united by a fraternal spirit.
Be pleased to banish violence and prejudice
swiftly from our midst,
restore justice and security,
and wipe away all tears,
so that we may all truly deserve
to be called your children.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever. Amen
